DUDLEY PAINTING PAUL'S PIANO
It was around this time that Paul McCartney indicated that he would like BEV to paint his piano. Not just any piano, you understand, but the one upon which Paul composed many of his classics. Paul stated:
“I wrote ‘Getting Better’ on my magic piano signed by Binder Edwards & Vaughan one raised the lid and one heard this magic sound, of course the way in which it was painted added much to the seal”.
One evening Ray Anderson and I were enjoying an evening with Paul when Micky Dolenz of the Monkeys joined us; this event is described on Micky’s Official Website – “After dinner we found out that Paul McCartney had invited us to his house for the evening. Two of his friends were there, Dudley Edwards, the up and coming Pop Artist of London and Ray, a friend of his from San Francisco. Paul took us into his music room and showed us around. It has a piano painted by Dudley. That piano is the freakiest thing you’ve ever seen. It’s lavender, gold, blue, orange – everything you could imagine – it’s got millions of colours. Along about 2:00 A.M. Brian Epstein called and we went over there in Paul’s Aston Martin. The next day we really got up early. Micky dashed over to Dudley Edwards and didn’t get back until late afternoon. We rested a little and then Cass Elliot, Spence (Spencer Davies) and Del Shannon came over with a whole group of people and we had another party and late to bed again”.
